On Zombies and Sea Monsters

While I wait for a Youtube video to load, I decided to update my book blog. I have a cat lying on my arm as I type, so all typo's and grammar errors can and will be blamed on her.

Still not back on the 100 list yet, still reading all day for my schoolwork. My day time reading are books like: The "New Eusebius", "Creeds, Councils and Controversies", "Metaphysics"  and Descartes 'Meditations'.

I've recently become inspired to write a book of my own, it's highly top secret at this point and the hard work on it will begin after school is finished in May. For it I'm reading Milton's "Paradise Lost" and obscure Apocalyptic literature as well as selections of the apocrypha and Gnostic writings as well. Yes, I read these for fun.

And then there's Zombies and Sea Monster's. I've previously written about my love for Jane Austin and the retelling of her Novel "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Because of this love I picked up "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monster's", published by the same company Quirk Classics, but with a different author, Ben H. Winters.

The writing in this book is as seamless as in 'Zombies' it is nearly impossible to tell where Jane stops and Ben begins. The reworking of Sir John Middleton's Estate to place it on island surrounded by the most dangerous waters is creativity and wonderfully done.

As with Jane and Elizabeth in 'Zombies' Marianne and Elinor are fearless monster killers. I like them a lot.

"Sense and Sensibility' is my favourite Jane Austen novel. Yes, I like it more than "Pride and Prejudice". I love Elinor because I believe that if I had lived in that time, I would be the most like her. I would be caught up in 'acting as befits a young lady' and I would confine myself to the social workings of the time. But I know that my heart and soul would soar as Marianne's does and I would find my life to be frustrating because I would not be free to do as I pleased. I like that Marianne does not hold those same fears.

Yet I got to a point in this new version where even though I was really enjoying it and really curious about what was going to happen, how Lucy would end up on the Island etc... I had to stop reading.

Colonel Brandon has tentacles on his face.

Tentacles. On. His. FACE!

Yes, yes, the cover picture should have given that away, but I wasn't expecting them to be all moving around,  doing tentacle-y things all over his face. Gives me the willies.

Seriously I have this thing about slimy icky squirmy things, slugs, snails, tentacles - ick, yuck, spew.

I can feel my throat close in and the gag reflex jump start. Sorry,  Ben H. Winters, it totally turned me off and I just can't get past it. I'll read your 'Android Karenina' tho, that sounds awesome and not at all squishy.

Just a few more things to mention:

1. You can follow me and my inexplicable ramblings on twitter if you want (tho I'd be reluctant too) @Annerellis

2. Have you ever noticed how weird the word Colonel is? Kernel. yeah I get that, but how is Kernel and Colonel pronounced the same? Colon-el your colon-oscopy is ready? English is so weird.

3. World War Z totally kicked ass. Great book, terrifyingly awesome.
