Plush Pumpkin Pattern

yarn and needles size don't really matter for this pattern – choose based on how big you want to make your pumpkins

Needles:
Size 10 6mm Double pointed needles (DPN) – set of 5.

Yarn:
For these pumpkins I used a few different yarns:

1. Orange Pumpkin – Lions pride Woolspun Bulky 5, 'Pumpkin'
2. Variegated pumpkin – Lion Brand, medium 4, 'Autumn Print'
3. Variegated B – Both 'Pumpkin' and 'Autumn Print'
4. Black, Green and Orange Striped – Lions Pride 'pumpkin', Bernat Cotton 'black', Bernat Super Value 'Lush' medium 4.
3. Variegated B and 4. Black, Green and Orange

Other supplies needed:
Tapestry needle
Cotton stuffing
Stitchmarker

Abbreviations:
DPN: double pointed needle
KFB: knit front and back of the stitch
K2tog: Knit two together
K: knit
P: purl

Bottom: leaving extra yarn,
cast on 12 stitches, divide evenly between DPN and attach for working in the round.
Place Stitch Marker

Round 1: Knit
Round 2: KFB all stitches (24 stitches)
Round 3: Knit
Round 4: KFB all stitches (48 stitches)
Round 5: Knit
Round 6: KFB all Stitches (96 stitches)
Knitting in the round

Continue this until you have the size of pumpkin that you want
The ones pictured measure 20 inches around – with a total of 96 stitches

However this will vary based on yarn thickness and size of DPNs

Body:

Round 7: K 11, P 1, repeat to end of round.
Repeat same for all rounds until desired size of body is reached.
The Purled stitch creates an indented dividing line, creating 'sections' in the work.

Pumpkins pictured measure approx 2 – 2.5 inches in body before beginning decrease. (Rounder Orange pumpkin approx 4 - 5 inches)

es in body before beginning decrease.

Top:

Round 1: To decrease – K 11, P 1, K2tog – repeat end of round
Round 2: K 10, P 1 - repeat
Round 3: K 10, P 1, K2tog – repeat
Round 4: K 9, P 1, - repeat

To keep it simple – k2tog every other round and after every purled stitch which will decrease the size of the 'sections' evenly.

Repeat until you are down to approx 24 stitches and cast off. Leave a long tail.

Using the tapestry needle and your long tail from the cast on – stitch the bottom of the pumpkin closed.

Stuff the pumpkin with cotton stuffing from the top, be sure to fill each 'section' with a lot of stuffing. Really pack it in.

Using the long tail from the cast off stitch the top closed, try to stitch it like a draw string, tightening the hole evenly from all sides as you go.

Once closed, press the needle into the body of the pumpkin, squish the pumpkin so you can pull the needle and yarn though the bottom.

Pull the yarn tight creating the top indent of the pumpkin. Push the needle back through the pumpkin from bottom to top, pull tight, tie off.

Stem:

Cast on 3 stitches
Garter Stitch until length of stem desired is reached, cast off
(or use i-cord)

Garter stitch will curl slightly

Great leaf Pattern!

Sew on with tapestry needle.

DONE!
